Italo Brown, MD, MPH

Italo M. Brown, MD, MPH (Morehouse College, Boston University, Meharry Medical College) is an ER physician, a health equity expert, and a leader in minority health. Throughout his career, he has been at the front lines of social medicine and health equity. He’s an assistant professor in emergency medicine and health equity & social justice curriculum lead at Stanford University School of Medicine. He’s also the Chief Impact Officer of T.R.A.P. Medicine, a barbershop-based wellness initiative that leverages the cultural capital of barbershops to address the physical and emotional health of Black men and boys. In 2017, the National Minority Quality Forum named Italo among the 40 Under 40 Leaders in Minority Health. He also serves as a diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant for organizations like Google and YouTube.

Gregory Scott Brown, MD

Gregory Scott Brown MD is a board-certified psychiatrist and Men's Health advisor. He writes a column on mental wellness for Men’s Health, and co-hosts our popular Friday Sessions Instagram Live. He is an affiliate faculty member at the University of Texas Dell Medical School and author of The Self-Healing Mind: An Essential Five-Step Practice to Overcoming Anxiety and Depression, and Revitalizing Your Life. Dr. Brown is an advocate for evidence-based integrative care that includes incorporating exercise, mindfulness, meditation, and nutrition with standard of care treatments for mental illness. He’s a diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He completed a fellowship in integrative medicine at the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine, specialty training in general psychiatry at the University of Texas Dell Medical School, and received an M.D. from the McGovern Medical School in Houston. Dr. Brown is an alumnus of Rice University, where he received a bachelor's degree in anthropology, and Johns Hopkins University, where he completed a post-baccalaureate premedical program. Prior to his transition to medicine, Dr. Brown studied music at The Juilliard School in New York.

Dr. Brown was awarded a SAMHSA Minority Fellowship by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and participated on the APA Council on Communications for two years.

Dr. Brown believes in the therapeutic value of yoga, and he often writes and speaks about its benefits for mental health prevention and treatment.

Foluso A. Fakorede, MD

Dr. Fakorede has become a national voice in the fight on the impact of health disparity in underserved communities. He immigrated to America from Nigeria as a young teenager, received his medical degree from UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and did his internship and residency in internal medicine at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital.

In 2015, Dr. Fakorede started Cardiovascular Solutions of Central Mississippi with a mission to educate and provide access quality health care for all. As the Co-chair of the Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) PAD initiative, Dr Fakorede has been at the helm of working with Congressional lawmakers to establish the first ever bipartisan PAD [Peripheral Artery Disease] caucus whose mission is to support legislative bills to stop the virulent practices of preventable amputations and to educate communities about legislative activities aimed to improve PAD research, education, and treatment.

His preventive initiatives, aggressive screening adaptations and quality intervention strategies has led Dr. Fakorede to decrease amputations rates by 88% over a 3-year period in his site of service in the Mississippi Delta. He has become the PAD advocate with a purpose that is impacting the lives of the forgotten and voiceless and ultimately eliminating health care disparities.

Debby Herbenick, Ph.D., M.P.H.

For more than 15 years, Debby Herbenick's research has focused on better understanding how contemporary women and men experience their bodies and their sex lives. Among her 100+ scientific publications, she has created measurement scales to assess male and female genital self-image, the quality of sexual experiences, attitudes toward condoms, attitudes toward bisexual women and men, and she has consulted on the development of a number of other measurement scales. Since 2009, together with her colleague Dr. Michael Reece in the School of Public Health, she has led the National Survey of Sexual Health and Behavior (NSSHB)—a nationally representative survey of Americans focusing on their sexual behaviors and experiences. She has also written five books and several thousand newspaper and magazine columns about sex. She hosts the Kinsey Confidential column and podcast series, and has appeared on various TV, radio and web-based video series talking about sex and sex research.

Justin Lehmiller, Ph.D.

Justin J. Lehmiller received his Ph.D. in social psychology from Purdue University. He is a Research Fellow at The Kinsey Institute and author of the book Tell Me What You Want: The Science of Sexual Desire and How It Can Help You Improve Your Sex Life. Dr. Lehmiller is an award-winning educator, having been honored three times with the Certificate of Teaching Excellence from Harvard University, where he taught for several years. He is also a prolific researcher and scholar who has published more than 40 pieces of academic writing to date, including a textbook entitled The Psychology of Human Sexuality (now in its second edition) that is used in college classrooms around the world. Dr. Lehmiller's research focuses on topics including casual sex, sexual fantasy, sexual health, and friends with benefits. His studies have appeared in all of the leading journals on human sexuality, including the Journal of Sex Research, Archives of Sexual Behavior, and The Journal of Sexual Medicine.

Dr. Christopher Winter is a board-certified sleep specialist and neurologist in Charlottesville Virginia and the President of Charlottesville Neurology and Sleep Medicine. He is the author of The Sleep Solution: Why Your Sleep is Broken and How to Fix It. He has been involved in sleep medicine and sleep research since 1993, and established the Martha Jefferson Sleep Medicine Center in 2004. Michael Fredricson, M.D.

Michael Fredricson, M.D., is a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) with a unique approach to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of sports injuries. Keith Roach, M.D.

Dr. Keith Roach is currently on the faculty of Weill-Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital as an Associate Professor in Clinical Medicine in the division of general medicine. His work has appeared in more than 20 peer-reviewed publications. He has been a practicing internist for over 25 years. Dr. Roach graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a degree in molecular biology, then took his M.D. at the University of Chicago. He did his internship and medicine residency training there as well, and stayed on as faculty, winning several teaching awards and honors. Dr. Roach moved to New York in 2000, joining the faculty at Weill-Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital as an Associate Professor in Clinical Medicine in the division of general medicine, and has won many teaching awards. He also served as program director for the primary care internal medicine training program until 2009. His special area of research interest is prevention of disease and rational use of screening technology. He continues to teach and see patients there with the medical housestaff.

Fatima Cody Stanford, MD, MPH, is a fellowship-trained obesity medicine physician scientist at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)/ Harvard Medical School (HMS). She has an international and national presence as an expert in obesity medicine and holds leadership positions which reflect this expertise. She’s influenced clinical practice by helping draft the current guidelines for metabolic and bariatric surgery in the pediatric population and the use of pharmacotherapy as an adjunct to bariatric surgery for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

She regularly speaks to professional and lay audiences on obesity and diversity and inclusion. She holds leadership positions in the World Medical Association, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American Heart Association, The Obesity Society, and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

She’s published more than 100 peer-reviewed articles and serves on the editorial boards for the International Journal of Obesity

and Health Equity, and is a peer reviewer for more than 60 medical journals including the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association. At MGH and HMS, she provides clinical care, supervises trainees, and conducts research on obesity, health policy, and health disparities to enhance our knowledge and quality of patient care in the United States and throughout the world.
