Tag Heuer continues to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its Carrera watch with two new models.

The first is a classic chronograph and comes in two variants.

One with a blue dial on a blue calfskin strap. The other has a black and silver ‘reverse panda’ dial and comes on a black calfskin strap.

The new Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph features a ‘glass box’ sapphire crystal that mirrors the domed hesalite crystals found on Heuer Carrera models from the 1970s. A redesign means that the curve of the crystal now flows over the tachymeter scale that runs around the dial edge.

The watchmaker has bought back the ‘glass box’ design before, reintroducing it in 2015 for a series of limited editions. A favourite with vintage collectors, the company says it also means the watch face is easier to read from a wider variety of angles.

The second of the new 60th anniversary Carerras is a tourbillon model. The feature is displayed through an aperture at 6 o’clock.

Both new models use a tweaked version of the brand’s in-house Calibre 02 movement. Visible through the open case back it now features an oscillating weight that allows for bidirectional winding, a feature that Tag Heuer says makes for faster and more accurate winding, improved precision and an 80-hour power reserve.

The Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph is 39mm, while the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph Tourbillon is 42mm.
