Honestly, it happens to even the most well-groomed among us: that moment you look in the mirror and notice that one long hair inching its way out of one of your nostrils. It may also manifest as a long, errant ear hair or a single strand standing at attention from an eyebrow. It’s part of being a man that we all start seeing hairs in weird places eventually. Especially as we get older, hair seems to take on a life of its own.
It’s a testament to how common this phenomenon is that something like nose hair trimmers exist. Sure, you could take scissors to the hair or pluck it out with tweezers, but using a nose trimmer is a safe, painless way to keep your nose in check. These devices are specifically designed to cut hairs in hard to reach places, and usually come with other bells and whistles, like attachments, lights, and sometimes their own vacuum systems to keep your cut hairs out of the sink.

Nose hair exists for a reason: to help catch foreign particles before they enter your body through you nasal passage and potentially cause harm like diseases. So it’s ill-advised to completely wax your nose hair. However, long or visible nose hair isn’t doing this job better than the ones you can’t see. So if you’re trimming nose hair, do it regularly and don’t go overboard. Trim only when you start to see hairs peeking out.

Most nose hair trimmers are reasonably affordable and shelling out a ton of money isn’t necessarily going to get you the best one. Think about how often you’ll use it, and if you’re mostly concerned with nose hairs or want to use it for other things, too. Nearly all trimmers are battery operated (always keep fresh batteries on hand), and many come with multiple attachments to help you tackle errant eyebrow hairs and sometimes even detail your beard.

- Comes with several detailing attachments
Another good portable option, this multi-purpose trimmer has three attachments to make it a one-stop detailing shop. The nose hair trimmer is powerful, but the addition of an eyebrow comb and detailer (for sideburns and beards) makes it a great value.
- Easy to hold
- Can use on wet and dry hairs
- Built-in vacuum system
This is like the Rolls-Royce of nose hair trimmers: expensive, but top of the line. The wet/dry feature makes cleaning it a breeze, but also means you can use it in the shower. Best of all, the built-in vacuum system catches hair inside before it ends up on your sink.
- Comes with detailer attachment
This tiny trimmer is the size of a ballpoint pen, which means it easily fits in your dopp kit or your gym bag for grooming on-the-go (if that’s something you want). One attachment trims errant nose and ear hairs and the other is a powerful detailer for your brows, as well as sideburns or beard.
If sticking a motorized tool up your nose freaks you out, this manual clipper is easy to use and reduces the possibility of nicks or cuts. Squeezing the levers rotates the blade to trim hairs slowly, but with less potential irritation.
This no-frills trimmer does one thing and does it well: trims nose hairs without pulling. The unique blade cuts at three different lengths to protect the skin inside your nostrils and cut hair comfortably and quickly, without snagging it.
If you're looking for a budget-friendly option to add to your Dopp kit, this is it. Conair's new all-in-one nose and ear trimmer will give you the precision you need, thanks to the diamond-shaped 3-bevel blade. This may just be your new go-to grooming tool.
In addition to an ergonomically designed rotating nose and ear trimmer, this fully washable trimmer comes with an eyebrow attachment with two length combs. It’s a well-rounded option that can do everything you need it to.

No attachments to worry about on this trimmer, but what really makes it shine is the LED light, which can ensure you do a good job of cutting every hard to see hair up in your nose. It’s also wet/dry, which is always a plus when it comes to cleaning.
One charge of this trimmer gives you 30 minutes of trim time, and the powerful 9000 rpm motor cuts through even those thick hairs with ease. It’s completely waterproof, so no need to worry if you prefer to use it in the shower (or bath, we won’t judge), and the built-in light ensures you never miss an errant hair. The snap-on cap is perfect for travel, so pop this in your dopp kit and you’re good to go.
How to Use a Nose Hair Trimmer
You might be nervous shoving a trimmer up your nose at first, but rest assured, the best nose hair trimmers are designed to be painless. The blades are usually hidden in a cylindrical casing to avoid cuts and snags (nothing is more painful than a razor nick inside your nose).
Gently insert the trimmer into one nostril, turn it on, and twist the device around to get all the hairs you can. Never try to insert it deep into your nose—keep it shallow! You’ll usually be able to hear the hairs being cut, so once you feel like you’ve got them all, repeat on the next side.
But Does It Hurt?
Even if you have really long or thick nostril hairs, using a nose hair trimmer won’t hurt. The blades aren’t shaving the hairs down to the skin—they’re just cutting them to a length so they won’t stick out of your nose.
Think of it the same as getting a haircut.
Are Nose Hair Trimmers Just for Nose Hair?
Even with their relatively low price, it can be hard to justify a tool for such a specific issue. Luckily, you can use a nose hair trimmer in some other places.
Even the simplest ones are good for ear hair and trimming especially long eyebrow hairs. Some other trimmers also come with interchangeable attachments to help shape facial hair and trim mustaches, beards, and sometimes body hair. Still, others are full-on clippers with a nose hair trimmer attachment.
Choose one depending on where you want to use it, but don’t try to go rogue. Stick to what the trimmer and attachments are designed for.
