What to Look for in Amazon Watches for Men

Case Size: The case size is determined by the width of the watch perpendicular to the strap, not including the crown—the knob on the side. Watch case size is important to consider because you want it to complement the size of your wrist. There should be a little bit of wrist showing on either side of the watch case, as you don't want the case to take up your whole wrist.

Movement: This is simply the engine that powers the watch. Quartz movements run on a battery that powers a quartz crystal which vibrates at a constant frequency used to determine seconds. Automatic movements use the motion of your hand and body to wind up a spring that powers the watch. Constant force from the spring is what cases the second hand to move faster— appearing smoother—on an automatic watch than a quartz watch.

Band material: Most watches come with a metal band constructed of connected links, a leather band similar to a belt, or a nylon strap that runs under the watch case. Leather bands are dressier, but you don't want to get them wet or sweaty. Nylon bands are great for exercising, outdoors and water activities, and hot weather. Metal bands pretty much do it all, but are heavier than the other two.

Almost all watch straps are removable and interchangeable but if you want to switch it up, make sure that you note the width of the lugs—generally 18, 20, or 22 mm. However, some sport watches come with rubber or resin bands that are permanently attached to the case.

It didn't take much time in the field to see why this is currently the best selling men's watch on Amazon. Collectively, we've owned and tested countless Timex watches and the Expedition Scout sums up everything we love about the brand. For starters, the field watch design will compliment everything in your closet. The case is sturdy and the band is comfortable. What stands out the most is the clutch Indiglo feature that lights up the watch face when you press down on the crown. Way easier than fumbling around for your phone in the dark.

We love the clothing basics from Amazon Essentials, like polos and chinos. So we were eager to test out one of the two tickers now available. In true versatility, this unisex design is simple and sized to complement practically any wrist. Considering the in-house line is all about no-frills basics sold at ridiculously low prices, Amazon Essentials nailed it with a sub-$50 watch.

Somewhat of a cult following has developed around this old school Casio in recent years, based on retro vibes and accesssability. The design has remained pretty much unchanged since the 1980s and, remarkably, so has the price. Our biggest take away was that the small size and weight—coming in at 32 mm wide and 58 grams total—provides a lightweight-but-still-stylish jewelry for your wrist. Bottom line, the digital face is just fun to look at.

For running, biking, and swimming, this is the perfect watch—even if you're not doing all three in a row. Timex teamed up with the Ironman race back in the early 90s and they've mastered the training watch through rigorous field testing. We wouldn't exactly call the field testing we did "rigorous," but it worked like a charm on the run, at the gym, and in the pool. The seamless and smooth band construction is extra comfortable.

If you are looking to get into automatic watches for the first time, a good place to start is the Seiko 5 Sports line. Seiko has a heritage and reputation on par with the best watchmakers on the planet. We love the SRPD73 because it has a fun retro look that can dress up or down any outfit equally well. The construction is fully functional for diving and the movement is a workhorse that can last for decades. Our favorite detail is the mesh band that is very comfortable.

Pilot watches are meant to be big, with bold faces and enormous crowns. Aplina checked all the boxes with the Startimer. We actually felt that it wore smaller than the 44mm case suggests because the proportions are so balanced. This is an ideal work-and-play watch, especially for men with larger wrists.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Chronograph

We're not entirely sure when F1 racing became a thing on this side of the Atlantic but we're sure happy it did. Almost as thrilling as the races are the timepieces that have come out of TAG Heuer's long time partnership with F1. This quartz powered chronograph gave us the feeling of having a powerful machine on our wrist. Even if we were just timing our french press instead of race laps.

Cartier Tank Solo

When it came time to scout out watches, a few immediately came to mind. Cartier's legendary Tank Solo was near to top of every editor's list. Placing this watch on your wrist feels like wearing a famous artwork, thanks to the reputation the precedes it. While there are plenty of other square face watches out there, if your budget allows for it, there is no substitute.

Even though the company has been around for 65 years, Orient came out of nowhere with the hype that built up over it the past few years. So we were excited to test out the newest version of the signature Bambino. To put it simply, we couldn't figure out how Orient makes any money selling this watch for less than $200. Certified classic looks with an automatic movement and sturdy construction make it an absolute steal.

Movado Collection Black Dial Two-Tone

Maybe the two-tone look isn't for everyone, but with this particular Movado it really grew on us. The lone gold 12:00 marker and dagger hands floating on a black background balance out the flashier case and bracelet. The other standout feature is how thin and light this watch feels, thanks to the quartz movement. It wears more like a bracelet.

While Raymond Weil doesn't exactly make cheap watches, they do give the appearance of far more expensive high end watches.
