June 28: Foxx is "doing well" but "still not himself"

After months of seemingly nobody from outside the family having direct contact with Foxx, John Boyega confirmed to reporters that he had spoken to him on a call.

"He finally picked up the phone. Thank you, bro," Boyega said while walking the red carpet at the premiere of the Netflix sci-fi comedy They Cloned Tyrone, in which he and Foxx appear alongside each other. "He’s doing well," Boyega told People. "And then, you know, we just giving him the privacy, and we can’t wait for his return. I gave him the well wishes directly. I gave him all the well wishes. So I’m just gonna be waiting until he comes back out here. So take your time, Jamie. We love you, bro."

At the same event, They Cloned Tyrone co-producer Datari Turner hinted that Foxx could even be returning to work sooner than imagined. "He's doing amazing. I promise you. Doing really, really good," said Turnder. "He’s in really, really good shape and spirits. And he’ll be back on the screen. He’ll be back to work very soon."

Shortly after, however, People reported that a source close to the family had provided a new update, saying that Foxx "is getting the best care and working hard to recover right now, but he is still not himself," adding that "he has the tightest circle around him."
